Road and Bridge Engineering

The Department of Road and Bridge Engineering was established in 1993, mainly engaged in the research of road and bridge theory, design and detection technology. In 2000, it was granted the right to confer Doctor Degrees in Road and Bridge engineering.

The department has 21 employees, including 4 professors (including 3 doctoral supervisors), 6 associate professors, 6 lecturers, 4 engineers and 1 assistant engineer. Teachers with a master's degree or above account for 90% of the total number of teachers, and those with a doctoral degree or above account for 38% of the total number of teachers. It owns a reasonable structural teacher-team with combining with old, middle and young ages and majoring in middle and young ages. In 2008, the scientific research team led by Professor Liu Bingbing was funded by the Innovation Team of Jilin University. Among these teachers, there is 1 member of the Communication and Transportation Engineering Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and 1 senior expert of the provincial administration of Jilin Province.

The main research directions are as follows :(1) Dynamic optimization theory and application of bridge structure calculation; (2) Theoretical and experimental research of road materials; (3) Road and bridge engineering detection and reinforcement; (4) Road and bridge engineering and disaster prevention and control; (5) Road planning and design; (6) Comprehensive design theory and method of subgrade and pavement.

It has a Road and Bridge Laboratory and Road Engineering Experimental Testing Center of Jilin University. The laboratory covers an area of 1000 square meters and has more than 10 large test platforms with a total value of more than 4 million yuan. With the qualification of road engineering quality test (Grade B), the construction quality and carrying capacity of roads and bridges can be tested and verified on site. These types of equipment and conditions provide good conditions for undergraduate students to conduct surveying, geotechnical, pavement, roadbed and pavement testing, bridge testing and other tests, as well as for graduate students' training and teachers' scientific research work.

It has presided over and undertaken the “863” program and more than 30scientific research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Provincial Scientific Research Projects of the Ministry, with the scientific research funds amounting to 10 million yuan. It has won one Third Prize of National Natural Science, one Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of State Education Commission, one Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Jilin Province, and three Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Jilin Province. It has published more than 120 academic papers in important international academic journals or conferences, among which more than 50 papers have been included in EI, SCI and ISTP. It has published 16 textbooks and monographs, which have a certain influence on domestic relevant fields. In recent years, more than 100 cable-stayed bridges, semi-rigid frame continuous box girders, hyperbolic arch bridges and other bridges have been tested. More than 10 bridges are strengthened with carbon fiber reinforcement technology. The construction monitoring and health monitoring of newly-built bridges are carried out with advanced technology, and a forecast and early warning system is formed. The freezing-thawing simulation test machine for subgrade was invented and developed. New pavement structures such as glass fiber reinforced asphalt concrete and ultra-thin wear layer were put forward. It has formed a talent training environment that combines with scientific research and teaching.
